Campfire Calzone
Yes, you heard right. This calzone is guaranteed to make memories on your next camping trip.
Ingredients
Pizza dough (pre-made or homemade)
Sliced ham
Shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or your favorite)
Passata or tomato sauce
Olive oil
Method
- Prepare your campfire by ensuring you have hot embers or a bed of coals. You want consistent heat, not flames.
- Spread out the pizza dough into a large circle on a cast-iron skillet.
- On one half of the dough circle, layer slices of ham and a generous amount of shredded cheese.
- Spoon a dollop of passata or tomato sauce over the ham and cheese layer.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the toppings to create a half-moon shape. Press and seal the edges firmly to prevent any filling from leaking out during cooking.
- Lightly brush the sealed calzones with olive oil. This will help create a nice crust while cooking.
- Top with a lid and cook for about 5-8 minutes per side, rotating occasionally, until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the heat and let cool slightly before serving.
